BODY PROPORTIONS

No proportion formula fits all cats, but there are general proportional guides. I have included two here: the skeleton proportion grid and the head-neck measuring length. Try them both. (See A.)

Foreshortening—drawing anything that is pointing toward you—is one of the most difficult aspects of composition. If you think of the cat’s body as a series of shapes stacked on top of each other, you will be able to foreshorten more easily. (See B.)
